Nominees announced for nationally-noted Big Diverter Award

Milwaukee, WI - The nominees for WasteCap Wisconsin's second annual R3 Awards, including eight construction and demolition projects nominated for the nationally-noted Big Diverter Award, have been selected. The state's most successful professionals and businesses working to reduce, reuse, and recycle commercial debris will be honored at this ceremony, sponsored and presented by The Daily Reporter, Whole Foods and Waste Management Recycle America, on Oct. 17.

Professionals from the construction, architectural, environmental, engineering, and waste industries plan to attend the ceremony, which will be held at the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison, WI.

The R3 Award categories include: outstanding commitment, outstanding board member, outstanding partnership, outstanding volunteer, and the nationally-noted Big Diverter Award. The Big Diverter Award is given to a recent or current project with the highest recycling rate and nominees include some prominent projects throughout the state, including:

Boldt Construction for University of Wisconsin's Interdisciplinary Research Complex, Madison
Wisconsin Public Service Corporation for the Weston 4 Power Plant, Rothschild
M. A. Mortenson Company for Froedtert Cancer Pavilion, Wauwautosa
Affiliated Construction Services for Kettle Foods, Beloit
The Jansen Group for St. Anthony's Parish, Menomonee Falls
Miron Construction for UW-Whitewater College of Business and Economics, Whitewater
Opus North Corporation for Northwestern Mutual, Franklin
The Jansen Group for Mason Temple, Milwaukee

The award ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., and will include presentations from Mary Burke, Secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and Adel "Tab" Tabrizi, the Director of the Bureau of Architecture and Engineering for the Wisconsin Department of Administration. The first State of Recycling address to be given by WasteCap Wisconsin's Director of Strategic Development, Jenna Kunde.

WasteCap Wisconsin is a statewide nonprofit organization committed to educating and assisting others in their efforts to reduce waste. Over its 11 year history, WasteCap has worked on $3 billion in construction and demolition projects. WasteCap's members and partners have diverted 226 million lbs. of material from Wisconsin landfills and have saved more than $1 million in avoided disposal costs by recycling and reusing construction and demolition debris. WasteCap Wisconsin's projects have achieved an average 73.3% recycling rate to date.
