Findorff celebrates recycling success on America Recycles Day
Press Release - November 14, 2005

Milwaukee, WI - J.H. Findorff & Son Inc., southeastern Wisconsin's leading builder, will celebrate America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) by announcing the success of their recycling program on the Marine Terminal Loft development project located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

Findorff has partnered with WasteCap Wisconsin, a private nonprofit providing construction waste management on many Findorff projects, to document recycling rates and develop markets for construction materials such as drywall, wood, metal and cardboard from the new development.

"Findorff is enthusiastic about recycling and they've proved it, by recycling over 290 tons of construction waste from the Marine Terminal project since April," Susan Buchanan, executive director of WasteCap Wisconsin said. "They are diverting a substantial amount of waste from Wisconsin's landfills and are worthy of substantial recognition as a leader in construction waste recycling."

Findorff has achieved an 80% recycling rate on the first floor of the building housing the newly completed offices of HGA Architects. Crews continue to recycle waste materials on the remaining floors and are currently at a 66% recycling rate for the entire building. The recycling of wood and cardboard on the project has saved more than 2100 trees.

"The Marine Terminal project is the perfect example of how a construction project can save natural resources and recycle waste in a downtown location with limited space," Dan Katt, project engineer with Findorff who is working on the Marine Terminal Lofts project, said. "Our goal is to achieve a 75% recycling rate on this project, and we thank our crews for committing themselves to recycling."

The Mandel Group, a recognized residential multi-family developer in the greater Milwaukee area, is developing the building. The firm has received multiple awards for their developments including The National Association of Home Builders 2000 Award for Best Mid-Rise Apartment Community in the United States for Lake Bluff at East Pointe in Milwaukee.

For 115 years, J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. has been building notable Wisconsin structures and building their reputation as southeastern Wisconsin's leading builder. Today, Findorff is not only a leader in the construction industry, but is quickly growing as leading environmentally responsible brand in Wisconsin and was awarded an Environmental Excellence Award in 2005 by Associated General Contractors. According to WasteCap Wisconsin, Findorff's projects have diverted over 8,000 tons of material from Wisconsin's landfills.
