1. WASTECAP WISCONSIN UPDATES

WasteCap saves businesses $1 million by recycling

WasteCap Wisconsin, a statewide, nonprofit organization, has saved its clients over $1 million in avoided disposal costs by recycling and reusing construction and demolition waste on prominent developments within the state. In addition to proving to their clients that recycling can save money, they have had a positive and significant impact on Wisconsin's waste problem by diverting over 73 million pounds of waste for recycling and reuse in the past ten years. Governor issues green building mandate

Green is the color of money and grass, both of which played an important role in Gov. Jim Doyle's most recent executive order. Doyle signed an executive order Tuesday requiring all state buildings to conform to high environmental and energy efficient, or "green building," standards. Executive order largely applauded by construction industry

Ready or not, the construction industry was told to start seeing green on Tuesday. Governor Jim Doyle issued an executive order requiring all state buildings to meet high environmental and energy efficiency standards, which means everyone in the industry was to take a look at green building now. Ralph McCall, senior project manager for WasteCap Wisconsin, said that the significance the initiative holds for recycling should not be understated. Registration closes for WasteCap's Construction and Demolition Waste Management and Recycling training program

WasteCap Wisconsin is offering the first-ever public training in construction and demolition waste management and recycling on May 2, 2006 at Waukesha State Bank in Oconomowoc, WI. Successful completion of the training will award registrants accreditation as a professional construction and demolition recycler. This training opportunity has received a large response and the class is now full. 5. LEGISLATIVE / REGULATORY UPDATE

Wisconsin Solid Waste Legislative Update

The Legislature is coming up the end of its active session, and there are over 1,800 bills that have been introduced. The last floor session for most bills is from April 25th to May 4th, but there has been no significant activity on any solid waste or recycling bills since the last update, and it not anticipated that there will be much further action on most bills by the end of this session. However, the proposed organic stability rule for landfills is progressing and will have hearings in April, and the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force continues to move forward.
