WasteWise assists with your recycling program needs
WasteWise is a free, voluntary, EPA program through which organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste and select industrial wastes, benefiting their bottom line and the environment. WasteWise is a flexible program that allows partners to design their own waste reduction programs tailored to their needs. All organizations within the United States may join the program. Large and small businesses from any industry sector are welcome to participate. Institutions, such as hospitals and universities, non-profits, and other organizations, as well as state, local, and tribal governments, are also eligible to participate in WasteWise. Your organization can shape the future of the WasteCap’s membership program
Starting in 2007, WasteCap Wisconsin will be surveying renewing and new members. Members have the opportunity to shape the membership program, making it as beneficial as possible to your organization and to the environment. JOB OPENING Communications Intern at WasteCap Wisconsin
WasteCap Wisconsin is seeking an individual with excellent research, writing and computer skills to assist WasteCap in marketing services, implementation of the public relations plan, website maintenance, feature and press release article writing, membership expansion and special events planning and assistance. This is a paid, part-time position (approx. 15 hours per week) at the Milwaukee office working under the direction of the Communications Director. Please apply by Jan. 17. US Composting Council’s 15th Annual Conference and Trade Show

Sheboygan County – Construction & Demolition Waste Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Meeting
When: February 20, 2007 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Where: Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Plymouth Service Center
Featuring: John Hansen of City Wide Recycling, LLC

City Wide Recycling (CWR) is a DNR licensed recycling center that has been opened to service the construction industry. It recycles mixed loads of new construction waste at its facility. Just have your hauler pick up the load from your site and have them haul it to CWR. They dump the load on their tipping floor and the wood, concrete/inert, metal, occ, mixed paper and drywall are then separated, containerized and shipped off to local end users. EIA Women’s Council unveils new scholarships

The Environmental Industry Associations’ (EIA) Women’s Council announced the creation of a new scholarship program designed to encourage women to pursue careers in the environmental industry. Polluted stormwater runoff and sewer overflows associated with poor stormwater management are toxic to our rivers, bays and other bodies of water. Schools are hottest market for green building, research shows

Chicago opens chemical and computer recycling plant

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley on Saturday helped cut the ribbon at the city’s new Household Chemical and Computer Recycling Center on Goose Island. According to the Chicago Tribune, the $3.8 million, 24,000-square-foot plant is the first permanent facility of its kind in the city. In addition to recycling computers, the center will accept batteries, cell phones, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, antifreeze, gasoline, drain cleaners and old paint. City officials say the facility has the capacity to divert 500 tons of obsolete electronics and an equal amount of discarded batteries from area landfills.
