Marquette University selects WasteCap Wisconsin =

We are excited to announce that Marquette University has selected WasteCap Wisconsin for their Milwaukee Legal Initiative for Nonprofit Corporations Clinic for the 2008-2009 school year. They provi= de “free, comprehensive, legal and strategic analysis for a selected Milwaukee nonprofit to address the legal, financial, governance and public relations issues related to the nonprofit’s proposed project.” = The university will combine the staff, students and resources of the law school= and business school to help WasteCap grow, specifically related to our construc= tion waste management services, WasteCapTRAC, and our training program.

WasteCap WI approved as a United States Green Building Council Education Provider

WasteCap Wisconsin’s Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling Training Cou= rse is now an approved course by the<= span style=3D'mso-bookmark:OLE_LINK5'> United States Green Building Council for the Education Provider Program.&nb= sp; The Education Provider Program was designed for professionals seeking to go beyond LEED and enrich their knowledge of green building theories, techniques, and business trends. Education Provider courses serve building professionals, L= EED APs, and anyone interested in expanding their knowledge. Allied Waste Opens New C&D Facility

Illinois requires no-cost electronic scrap recycl= ing

Illinois Gov. Ro= d R. Blagojevich has signed the nation´s 18th electronics recycling bill i= nto law, requiring manufacturers to shoulder the cost for recycling and imposin= g a landfill ban on electronics. Senate Bill 2313, sponsored by Sen. Susan Garr= ett and Rep. Elaine Nekritz, mandates manufacturers collect and recycle electronic scrap at no cost to consumers. It provides flexibility to electronics makers, allowing them to partner with retailers = and local governments to sponsor collection events. Manufacturers, recyclers, <= span class=3DSpellE>refurbishers and collectors must register with the Il= linois Environmental Protection Agency. The bill also bans covered electronics, su= ch as televisions, printers, computer monitors, computers, laptops, fax machin= es and MP3 players, from landfills effective Jan. 1, 2012. Waste Management Takes E-Waste Recycling to Heart=

Already the nation's largest residential recycler, Wa= ste Management announced that it was signing on to the Basel Action Network's E-Stewards Pledge to responsibly recycle electronic waste. By signing the pledge, WM agreed to keep toxic e-waste out of incinerators and landfills, = will not export any e-waste to developing countries or to prisons for recycling,= and will recycle and track its e-waste through the entire recycling stream. Ear= lier this year, WM teamed up with LG and Sony to encourage responsible recycling= of e-waste, and plans to open e-waste recycling centers in every state in the country with the goal of being within 20 miles of 90 percent of the U.S. population. The Electronics TakeBack Coalition and the Basel Action Network are withdrawing from an EPA-led e-waste standards committee, noting that the proposed results will fail to meet their three basic criteria for responsib= le recycling. Ci= ty of Milwaukee Unveils New “Recycle For Good” Public Education and Outreach Campaign<= /span>

The overall goal of Recycle For Good is to increase the to= nnage of recyclables collected in the City of Milwaukee by 15 percent. The campai= gn specifically aims to increase recycling in neighborhoods where recycling ra= tes are low, as well as to get residents who are already recyclers to recycle e= ven more. "The new recycling promotional campaign […] is intended to communicate the benefits of recycling to our community and promote greater participation in the City’s curbside collection program", said M= ayor Tom Barrett.
