WasteCap Wisconsin is seeking an individual for the position of:

Communications Intern

WasteCap Wisconsin seeks an individual with excellent research, writing and computer skills to assist in marketing services, implementing the public relations plan, website maintenance and updates, membership expansion, feature article and press release writing and special events planning and implementation. The Communications Intern works under the direction of Communications Director and will have the opportunity to:

- Draft articles and updates to be posted in email bulletins, distributed to businesses throughout Wisconsin (most content for the email bulletins provided by staff). Research additional topics if needed and interview for quotes,

- Compile and update media lists,

- Draft and proofread press releases, articles for bulletins and other marketing materials,

- Research grant opportunities and markets for recycled materials,

- Suggest improvements to WasteCap's email bulletin and website and work to implement improvements,

- Edit, design and manage website maintenance at the direction of staff,

- Update promotional, educational and informational materials,

- Help implement marketing/membership initiatives, including follow-up calls and assembling member resources and working with staff to implement membership expansion plans,

- Assist Communications Director in planning and implementing special events,

- Participate as part of a small office team in other office duties including answering phones, filing, office supply ordering, tracking time, checking voicemail and taking messages.

WasteCap Wisconsin is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that works to provide waste reduction and recycling assistance through business-to-business peer exchange, demonstration and education for the benefit of Wisconsin businesses and the environment. We work in the areas of construction and demolition waste recycling and reuse, electronics recycling and food waste.

Location/Pay: Office located on Milwaukee's east side. Schedule is flexible and we will work with your school schedule. Position: 10 - 15 hours per week at $8 an hour. The duration of the position is negotiable with the potential for extension beyond spring. WasteCap is willing to work with students to meet internship requirements.

Requirements: At least junior status working towards a college degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing or Public Relations. Must possess excellent written communication and proofreading skills; ability to organize work to establish and meet multiple deadlines, ability to manage and complete projects without supervision. Graphic design and website maintenance skills a plus. Candidates must be able to manage website maintenance including monthly updates, editing and creating/designing new web pages within the WasteCap Wisconsin website with the direction of staff (training will be provided). Must be proficient in Microsoft Office XP for PC, HTML (training will be provided), Adobe Illustrator (preferred), and ability to work as part of small office team. Great customer service and phone skills. Must have some experience / coursework in public relations, journalism, mass communications, non-profit work or marketing.
