Veridian's "Welcome Home" was part of the Department of Energy's Building America program and was 40% more energy effecient than a home built to standard code in Wisconsin in 2004.
Participants in the Talk & Tour learned:
-How Veridian had already recycled over 8,000 cubic yards of wood and cardboard in less than a year, saving more than 20% on its disposal costs and achieving a recycling rate of nearly 50%.
-How sustainable-building features, such as advanced framing techniques, compact duct design, and the use of environmentally-friendly building materials, were integrated into the building and construction of the Welcome Home.
-How energy-saving products, such as a solar water heater, compact fluorescent lighting, and Energy StarŪ rated appliances, were used in the home.
-How they could incorporate these practices and products into their next building project.
